Straightening

What it is

Orthodontic problems can be dental or skeletal: crowding, open bites, deep bites, crossbites, and Class II or Class III relationships between the jaws. Some, especially skeletal ones such as crossbites or Class III bites, should be treated in childhood because they don't correct themselves and can get worse. Many dental problems can be treated at any age. The earlier a problem is diagnosed, the easier it is to choose the right moment to treat it.

Fixed braces can be metal or aesthetic ceramic (white or transparent); the difference is in appearance, not in how well they work. Self-ligating braces hold the wire without elastic ties, use lighter forces, are easier to clean, and can mean fewer visits. For children who still have some milk teeth, removable appliances can guide jaw growth, gently widen the arches and keep space for permanent teeth.

Suitable for

  • Crowded, crooked or widely spaced teeth
  • Open bite, deep bite or crossbite
  • Children with jaw growth problems
  • Adults of any age with healthy teeth and gums

Orthodontics

How it's done

  1. 01

    Diagnosis

We examine your teeth and jaws, take X-rays and photos, and explain the problem and the options.

  2. 02

    Fitting

Brackets are bonded to the teeth and connected with a wire, or a removable appliance is fitted.

  3. 03

    Adjustments

Regular visits adjust the wires so teeth move gently and steadily towards their planned position.

  4. 04

    Retention

When the braces come off, a retainer keeps your teeth from moving back.

Orthodontics

Aftercare

Every treatment starts with a consultation. The information here is general — your dentist will tell you what applies to you.

  • Brush three times a day, especially after main meals, above and below every bracket
  • Use orthodontic and interdental brushes to clean around the wires
  • Cut hard foods into small pieces; avoid sticky foods and chewing gum
  • A mild painkiller can help during the first days after fitting or adjustment
  • Contact us if a bracket or wire breaks
  • Wear your retainer exactly as instructed

Questions

Questions, answered.

  • Braces don't cause pain, but you'll feel pressure for up to a week after fitting and after adjustments while you get used to them.

  • No. Adults of any age can have orthodontic treatment, as long as their teeth and gums are healthy.

  • An early check around age 7 helps spot jaw problems that are easier to treat while the child is still growing.
